Patios. Saturday , November 24th , 2018 - 07:45:41 AM
It seems that everywhere I go lately, I see patios: houses, offices, hospitals, restaurants, and spas. You name it, I've seen it there. They are becoming increasingly popular amongst South African gardens of all kinds and everyone is jumping at the opportunity to have it built onto their homes.
One last patio idea to add to all your patio ideas. It's a hot summer's night (we wish!) and you're sipping a glass of something chilled. On the wall you've given some plants the night off. Instead you've replace the 'planted' pot with an empty one. Added a small saucer to the bottom to block the drainage hole and placed a citronella candle on a bed of sand. The flickering glow of the candle dances over the walls and keeps those blasted midges away - all at the same time.
3) Add some warmth. Extend the season for your patio by adding a fire pit or even an outdoor heater. These also add more light and create an immediate focal point -- everyone who steps out into your backyard will know immediately where the party is. The best outdoor fires are surrounded by thick walls that radiate heat, but even a metal trash can works if that is all you've got. Don't forget the marshmallows!
Unless you've won the lottery recently, or you are one of those lucky people who get to work at home, most of your time during the day is probably spent at work. Even on weekends, most of us have so many errands and events to get to that we do not spend a lot of time lolling around.
A good twist for a patio is to make it out of cobble stones. Small gaps can be left in these to allow room for planting and this will lead to a more natural appearance which will definitely suitable for a more traditional property.
As these solutions involve some complicated construction techniques, it is wise to consult with an experienced contractor who can advise on the various codes and regulations that will need to be met. Also, as these are raised platforms, structural issues must be taken in account. You do not want your deck or patio falling down.
